In his address to counter the State of the Nation Address as earlier presented by President Mahama, Nana Addo argued that contrary to claims of Ghana’s economy being resilient were false and that the economy was on a reverse trend citing claims of excessive borrowing and huge external debts.
“The economy is on a reverse trend. In dollar terms, this NDC Government has borrowed some US$37 Billion in seven years. Last year, interest payments amounted to more than GHc9.6 billion, more than the total debt stock of GHc9.5 billion at the end of 2008. Ghana is where it is today because of reckless borrowing by incompetent government… because of an introduction of amateur and systematic plundering of the public purse. It is obvious the President did not want to tell us the true State of the Ghanaian Economy. This is the good-news-story-telling President,” Nana Addo argued.
Meanwhile the president has revealed the improvement in Ghana’s education and health sectors among others stating prove of extended life expectancy, provision of sandals to students among others. On education, President Mahama stated that 54,800 children in four regions have been enrolled into schools under the Compulsory Education program. This he said was is in fulfillment of a pledge made by government to absolve the cost of secondary education in Ghana.
