The Seat of Government has strongly denied alleged leaked list of President John Dramani Mahama’s new appointees in a reshuffle.
A
purported statement from government which went viral on Thursday
morning stated inter alia that Minister of Finance Seth Terkper has been
sacked and replaced with Dr. Sipa Yankey, CEO of the Ghana Gas
Company.
According to the report signed by the Chief of Staff
Julius Debrah, the President has appointed - Dr. Spio Garbrah as Foreign
Affairs Minister, Hon. Hannah Tetteh to the Ministry of Gender and
Social Protection, Hon. Lee Ocran as Labour and Employment Minister,
Hon. Kwesi Awhoi as Defence Minister and Hon. John Jinapor as Minister
of Power. The president however thanked Hon. Haruna Iddrisu
(MP), Hon. Benjamin Kunbour (MP) and Hon. Seth Tepker for their
wonderful contribution to the government and wished them well – this
indicated that the trio have been totally shelved from the Mahama-led
administration in an election year.
However – moments after Peacefmonline.com
published the statement which was received from a reliable source
within the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC] – the Flagstaff
House swiftly denied the ‘leaked’ ministerial reshuffle in a Facebook post saying "all official statements are usually issued via the official email address or Facebook page".
Communications Minister, Dr Omane Boamah also described the news as "false" in an sms message to Peacefmonline.com.
Below is a reproduction of the post on the seat of government's social media portal.
Statement from Flagstaff House reads:
Good morning.
Kindly
ignore a list of new 'appointments' making the rounds via WhatsApp
platforms. The Office of the President has issued no such statement. All
official statements are first issued via the official email address and
posted on the Flagstaff House Facebook Page. Thanks, SxD. --------------- Media Office Flagstaff House Communications Bureau Office of the President Flagstaff House Kanda- Accra Ghana
Meanwhile, some key NDC members believe the statement might have been leaked before the scheduled time. |
