Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has condemned what he describes as a “false and
defamatory” publication in the Daily Post newspaper of Wednesday January 27, 2016. The publication headlined: "Did Akufo-Addo really murder his first wife as claimed by the 'New Patriot'?" indicated that "The
'New Patriot', a newspaper which until yesterday was unknown to most
Ghanaians caused consternation particularly among NPP supporters over
its publication which accused twice defeated NPP flagbearer, Nana
Akufo-Addo of murdering a woman he was once married to. The newspaper
gave the name of the woman as Obaa Yaa Nkansah Dwamena and the date of
the alleged murder; 17th August, 1993". But a statement signed by Press Secretary of Nana Addo, Mr Eugene Arhin described the publication as "nothing but a vile, repugnant and tasteless fabrication."
"This
story is nothing but a vile, repugnant and tasteless fabrication. We
demand an unconditional and immediate retraction of story in the next
edition of the paper, which comes out on Thursday, January 28, 2015.
This retraction must be given the same prominence as was given to the
earlier story" the statement added.

AKUFO-ADDO REACTS TO DAILY POST DEFAMATION
The
attention of the Office of Nana Akufo-Addo has been drawn, once again,
to a false and defamatory publication in the Daily Post newspaper of
Wednesday, January 27, 2015.
The story, whose headline has been
written under the guise of a question and allegedly sourced from a
non-existent newspaper called the ‘New Patriot’, states emphatically
that Nana Akufo-Addo murdered his first wife, Obaa Yaa Nkansah Dwamena,
on 17th August, 1993.
It is tragic that our politics should sink
to such levels that there appears to be nothing sacred, nor any respect
for our cultural values in our society; and people would want to use the
death of a loved one to defame a political opponent.
This story
is nothing but a vile, repugnant and tasteless fabrication. We demand
an unconditional and immediate retraction of story in the next edition
of the paper, which comes out on Thursday, January 28, 2015. This retraction must be given the same prominence as was given to the earlier
story.
……signed……
Eugene Arhin
